Useful Info for Moving in Boston

Need a permit for a moving truck?

In Boston, any occupation of a public way requires a Street Occupancy Permit. This permit authorizes the holder to restrict access to that portion of the street for the length of time specified on the permit. Examples of work that require obtaining a Street Occupancy Permit include:
-moving
-construction
-utility maintenance or relocation

To apply for a 1-day moving truck permit online, visit https://www.cityofboston.gov/streetoccupancy/default.asp. Note: most of these permits need to be obtained 3 days in advance, with signs posted either 24 or 48 hours in advance. Fees do apply and are outlined on the City of Boston website.
